LifeEditor works by you bringing it a question and then answering it for yourself. This may sound simplistic, but in fact it is an enormously revealing process which leaves you feeling empowered and confident.

To start with, you have to examine your predicament and try to identify some possible choices.

For example, you may feel dissatisfied in your job and not sure what to do about it. Coming to the LifeEditor with a question like “what shall I do about my job?” won’t work.

You need to brainstorm some possible options, like:

  • Should I leave this company and go and work for a competitor?
  • Should I go for a promotion where I am now?
  • Should I retrain and start a new career?
  • Should I just put up with my job but start a rewarding hobby outside work?

See Brainstorming possible options for more detailed guidance on this part of the process.

Then you can use the LifeEditor to see to what extent each of these possible options would be right for you. If you want to look at several options, do them one at a time.

Your question should be in the form: “should I do x?” or “would y be right for me?”. For more detail on this, see Framing your question.
